University of Los Lagos will be the host of Congress of the Americas on International Education (CAIE) 2021

  • The event will be held October 19-22 and will bring together the main actors and decision-makers involved in the internationalization of higher education in the Americas.
  • Forty-six proposals were received from Chile from 34 different higher education institutions and organizations representing all sectors of higher education. 
  • In total, more than 1,200 people are expected to participate in the Congress. From ULagos, 30 academics and officials and one student will participate.

The Congress of the Americas on International Education (CAIE), the continental forum of excellence organized by the Universidad de Los Lagos, will be held with the objective of bringing together the main actors and decision-makers involved in the internationalization of higher education in the Americas to strengthen contacts, exchange experiences and outline the future of academic cooperation in the region.

The online event will allow more people and institutions from all over the world to participate in the event, which is organized every two years in a different host country, on this occasion Chile, in alliance with national, regional and international higher education institutions and organizations, offering a platform from which emerging challenges and trends, as well as good practices related to international education in the continent, can be made known.

Sponsored by the governments of Chile and Canada, the current challenges and trends in international education, both in the region and in the world, will be brought together in the day in which more than one hundred Chilean university and technical-professional higher education institutions – both public and private – will participate with key players in higher education to form the group of hosts whose commitment makes possible the organization of the seventh edition of this important meeting in 2021.

ULagos Presentations

As host, the Universidad de Los Lagos, which has transitioned to a model highly linked to the environment in all substantive functions, will present presentations and examples from research (with APIs) and teaching (specific career initiatives).

ULAGOS will participate in 3 parallel sessions and 2 posters: Parallel sessions: Experiences of relationship with the binding environment in teaching and research; Quality assurance and continuous improvement in university internationalization; and Training model integrated with the socio-productive sector. Posters: Integrated System of Projects for the articulation of ULagos R&D with the territory; and Strategic Plan Universidad de Los Lagos: Challenges to the year 2030.

Participation

According to Lynda Karen Vázquez, Executive Secretary of International Relations, assistant professor of the Department of Administrative and Economic Sciences of Universidad Los Lagos and coordinator of the event, the call for proposals closed on June 27 and the preliminary results “are very encouraging. In this line, the coordinator of the congress, said that “46 proposals were received from Chile coming from 34 IES and/or different organizations representing all sectors of higher education” and adds that “In total more than 1200 people are expected to participate in the Congress. From the Universidad de Los Lagos, 30 academics and officials and one student will participate”.

Regarding the online modality, Karen Vásquez indicated that “anyone can participate. You only have to pay the registration fee, which in the case of groups of more than 10 people receives a substantial discount”, she said.
